Study in Switzerland
by Genevieve M. Blaber
It takes a lot to get an education, but it takes real courage to travel to a different culture altogether in order to earn. As you look at all the possibilities, why not consider studying in Switzerland? It's a rich country that's on the cutting edge of science, all while offering thousands of years of culture and history to learn from.
Learn a New Language
It may seem obvious that attending a school in another country will give you a chance to learn a new language, but when you choose to study in Switzerland you have the chance to become proficient at any of the four national languages: French, German, Italian, Romansh.
Every day, you'll have the chance to practice another language and learn new things when you speak to native speakers. Best yet, you don't have to wait until you're in class to learn. Since you'll be living in Switzerland, you'll encounter native speakers who you can practice your newfound fluency with wherever you go -- from the corner store to the library.
Home to History
Whether you're a would-be history major, or just someone who likes to study ancient cultures and/or the development of man, then Switzerland is the place for you. This nation is rich with a history that extends hundreds of millennia into the past. In fact, you can trace mankind's history in Switzerland all the way back to 148,000 B.C. or so, and there's plenty of proof with cave markings and ancient farm settlements dotting the land.
If you choose to study in Switzerland, you'll be able to see all of these artifacts and more first-hand, whether it's on a tour of the countryside or in one of the country's many museums. Why read about history when you experience it up close and personal.
A Land Like No Other
If you like nature, are interested in the environment, or just have a taste for the great outdoors then you'll feel right at home amidst Switzerland's rolling green hills, mesmerizing blue skies, and pristine waters. Studying in Switzerland gives you the chance to hike along the country's trails, visit rural farms, and even exercise your photography skills thanks to the nation's amazing topography.
So whether it's part of a class assignment, or simply something you choose to do when you have time off from school, get out and enjoy the Swiss countryside, after all that studying you've certainly earned it!
On the Cutting Edge
If the sciences, technology, and research call out to you, then studying in Switzerland may be the best thing for you to do. Over the years, Switzerland has produced a number of scientists who have gone on to win Nobel prizes in their fields. In addition, Switzerland is now home to the biggest labroratory in the world, CERN. As you may recall, CERN is where the LHC, or Large Hadron Collider, was built so that scientists could gain a better understanding of particle physics.
And if you're head is in the clouds, you may be interesting in the Switzerland Space Agency, which involves itelf in a variety of space-related programs and technology.
